Rachel Smyth

Rachel has extensive knowledge of the local Cayman Islands markets, laws and procedures with experience in banking and general corporate/commercial matters.

She graduated from the University of Liverpool in 2007 with a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) and proceeded to complete the Professional Practice Course qualifying exams at the Cayman Islands Law School in 2008. She completed her articles with a large offshore firm based in the Cayman Islands and was admitted to the Cayman Islands Bar in 2010 where she continued practicing in the Banking & Finance division.

In 2011,  she joined Cayman Enterprise City, Special Economic Zone as a Global Business Development Manager working both with the Cayman Islands and Dubai based business development office. She was able to extend her expertise by interacting with global companies (small and fortune 500’s) in the fields of ICT, media and biotechnology. She spent time in Dubai forming strategic relationships with some of the largest special economic zones in the world and continued to spear head strategic partnerships becoming familiar with the benefits of some of the largest special economic zones in the world.

At the end of 2012  she returned to practicing law in Banking and General Corporate and Commercial matters for a further 2 years. 

She is a member of the Cayman Islands Legal Practitioners Association.



  • • Lead a team of trainees through a major due diligence project in connection with an acquisition of a Class A bank.
  • • Assisted and advised on the debt and equity restructure/refinance of a group of independent financial service providers.
  • • Assisted and advised on the acquisition of two A340 aircrafts for US$34.9 million.
  • • Advised a Class A Bank on the Confidential Relationship Preservation Law with regards to electronic data transactions within Cayman.
  • • Assisted in the establishment and licensing of Class B Banks in Cayman along with providing regulatory and on-going advice.
